Two Previous Talcum Powder Ovarian Cancer Lawsuit Juries Have Already Awarded Multimillion Dollar Verdicts in Cases Involving Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder, Shower-to-Shower and Ovarian Cancer
Talcum Powder Ovarian Cancer Lawsuit News: A jury in St. Louis, Missouri has been convened to hear evidence in the state’s third Talcum Powder Ovarian Cancer Lawsuit trial involving the alleged association between Johnson & Johnson talcum powders and ovarian cancer. During opening statements on Tuesday, October 4th, attorneys for the plaintiff told jurors that they were being given an opportunity to “change one of the largest corporation’s behavior”, and asked that they hold Johnson & Johnson accountable for placing profit ahead of consumer safety by allegedly selling a product the company knew to be dangerous.

“We are closely watching this trial, as two Missouri juries have already awarded millions to other Johnson & Johnson talc powder lawsuit plaintiffs. A third loss could place tremendous pressure on Johnson & Johnson to resolve this litigation,” said Dr. François Blaudeau, the founder of Southern Med Law.
The plaintiff at the center of this talcum powder lawsuit was a regular user of Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder for years, and applied it daily for feminine hygiene purposes. The California woman was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012, and alleges that Johnson & Johnson was negligent in the way in which it manufactured and marketed Baby Powder.
Court records indicate that Johnson & Johnson is facing more than 1,800 similar ovarian cancer claims involving Shower-to-Shower and Baby Powder. The Talcum Powder Ovarian Cancer lawsuit complaints cite numerous studies dating back to the 1970s that suggest the regular and repeated genital application of talcum powder for feminine hygiene purposes can promote the development of ovarian cancer. Plaintiffs further allege that Johnson & Johnson knew about this risk for years, but declined to include a warning on its talc-based products.
In February, the jury hearing evidence in Missouri’s first talcum powder lawsuit trial awarded $72 million to the family of an ovarian cancer victim who died after using Johnson & Johnson talc powders for more than three decades. Two months later, jurors hearing another talcum powder ovarian cancer lawsuit ordered the company to pay $55 million to a South Dakota plaintiff who was diagnosed with the disease following years of genital talcum powder use.
In July, plaintiffs who have Talcum Powder Ovarian Cancer Lawsuits pending in federal courts filed a motion seeking to have those claims centralized in a multidistrict litigation and transferred to a single jurisdiction for pretrial proceedings. The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation will hear oral arguments on the motion during its September 29th hearing session.

Around 200 Talcum Powder Ovarian Cancer Lawsuits Filed
Around 200 talcum powder ovarian cases have also been filed against Johnson & Johnson in New Jersey’s Atlantic County Superior Court. Earlier this month, the judge overseeing the multidistrict litigation granted Johnson & Johnson’s motions for summary judgement in two cases scheduled for October trials. However, those decisions do not impact talcum powder claims pending in other states, and attorneys have promised to appeal the decisions. (In Re: Talc Based Powder Product Litigation – Case No. 300)
